Broken Zippers

I have a very basic wardrobe. And not much of it. I keep thinking I’m not going to buy more clothes until I lose weight, blah blah blah. Then I get to where I literally have 3 or 4 shirts to wear to work (luckily I can wear jeans and t-shirts if I want) so I’ll buy a couple of cheap items to get me by until I lose weight. The same thing goes for pants. I have just a few pairs that I wear over and over, so they also get washed over and over. They usually wear out and I’m forced to buy another pair before I get down a size.

This brings me to today’s dilemma. I have one pair of size 24 jeans that are still in good shape, but are quite loose on me. I don’t usually wear them anymore and stick to my size 22 jeans that are also in good shape and fit better. Except the damn zipper broke this week! So now I’m back to my big jeans because I refuse to spend money on jeans that fit better. I have a bunch of size 20s in my drawer, but am afraid to try them because I just know they won’t be anywhere near fitting. Or maybe I should just try them and see how much further I have to go…

I know that I feel better when I’m wearing clothes that actually fit. I feel more put together and confident. Plus I know I look better than wearing things that are a size or two too big. Or too tight. But I don’t have the money to buy clothes. Why can’t my budget and clothes change places? I would gladly trade my small budget and big clothes for a big budget and small clothes. If only it was that simple…

I am now on Day 4 of pretty much staying on track with my diet. If I keep this up, I should be able to fit in my smaller clothes before too long. I have a bunch of pants and lots of shirts. Maybe they’ll fit well after another 10 pounds or so are gone?

So do I buy a few things to get me by? Or kick it into high gear so I can go shopping in my own closet?

Dilemmas, dilemmas!

  1. I believe that a great fitting pair of jeans can do wonders for your psyche! If the budget allows, I’d get 1 pair that fit really well right now. I hate that feeling of I have nothing that fits me. Hang a pair of the size 20’s where you can see them, maybe take a picture and keep it with you. You’ll get there! Keep pushing!

    • It’s not ripped. How can I explain this? You know how both sides of the zipper start in the base piece that you pull? One of those sides came out so I can’t zip at all. With some work, I might be able to get it working again. But if I do, I think it’s a matter of time before it’s done for.

  2. I totally relate, I face this dilemma every weekend. There is something to be said for holding out, but at the same time feeling good in the clothes you have can go a long way in keeping your spirits up 🙂
